Starts August 1—With A Bigger Prize For Honorable Mention!
The fall Ghost Story Supernatural Fiction Award competition is now open for submissions—and we’ve got a couple of exciting pieces of news.
The first is that we’re eliminating the position of second honorable mention, with it’s $100 cash prize, and instead we’ll be awarding two honorable mentions, each of which will receive a $250 award—plus, of course, custom illustration, and both online and print publication. The cash award for the winner will remain at $1,000.
Print publication for our fall 2018 winner and honorable mentions consists of inclusion in our paperbound anthology, 21st Century Ghost Stories—Volume II, which is scheduled for publication by Wyrd Harvest Press (Durham, U.K.) in 2021. And that leads us to the other piece of good news:
The first volume of 21st Century Ghost Stories will be available for purchase within a few weeks of this writing. Volume I contains all 29 winners and honorable mentions in the Ghost Story Awards contests—The Supernatural Fiction Award for full-length stories, and The Screw Turn Flash Fiction Competition—from 2015 through early 2018. As soon as we can, we’ll let you know how to order a copy.
You can read our fall contest guidelines here.
The image above, btw, is by our illustrator, Andy Pacorek. You’ll also find it in 21st Century Ghost Stories, at the beginning of a story called “Palette,” by British writer Barry Charmin.
